The Maid of Honor

While Maid of Honor refers to a single woman and Matron of Honor refers to a married one, the term "maid of honor" is commonly used regardless of the individual's marital status.  She is a special member of the wedding party, commonly the Bride's best friend, sister or closest confidante.  She traditionally acts as the primary host and organizer of the bridal shower and the bachelorette parties and serves as the go to person for the rest of the bridal party.

Here are some golden rules that will make her shine:
*Be Bravura- be loyal, enthusiastic, faithful, fun, gorgeous, and true.  This has everything to do with attitude - feeling love and respect for the bride and "her" day and little to do with money or hurt feelings.
*Know thy Bride - Every bride is different!  She wanted each of her special girls there because they very dear to her heart.  Everyone will have an opinion, tempers will flair, and budgets may be broken but she needs you to run interference, easy her concerns about how she looks in her dress (be honest!) and take it all in stride.  Ask how you can help instead of assuming you know her well enough...don't be a mind reader.
*Expectation Nothing - The most memorable, yet the most stressful time in a woman's life is while she wears the title of Bride so don't abandon her when she needs you most!  Give her your emotional support and keep a little comic relief in your bag for those stressful times.
*Be a Bond Girl! - No not James Bond...your bride loves these other bridesmaids so put your personal feelings aside love & embrace them!  She needs this group of ladies to be tight-knit to carry out the plans & logistics that she cannot do for herself right now.  A happy crew is helpful and fun...making for a Happy Bride!
*Take Directions! - Chuck your own opinions out the window and don't make assumptions about what she wants...she may decide to do it all with a twist and toss tradition out the window and that's okay!  It's Her wedding.
*Remember to take care of yourself - don't let yourself get lost during this time!  You're no good to her if you are sick, depressed or totally stressed out.
